Policy H104 School Committee Organizational Meeting

The organizational meeting of the Hancock School Committee shall be held annually at the first regular meeting of the School Committee in July.  At this meeting, the Superintendent shall call the meeting to order and preside over the election of a Chair for the year.  The new Chair shall preside over the election of a Vice Chair.

The Chair and Vice Chair shall serve until the next annual organizational meeting, at the pleasure of the School Committee. 

Duties of the Chair

The Chair shall appoint members of the School Committee to standing committees and shall designate one member as chair of the standing committee. 

The Chair shall appoint members of the School Committee to any temporary committees.

The Chair shall preside over School Committee meetings.

The Chair shall be the spokesperson for the School Committee to the public and the news media, in the absence of a specific action by the School Committee designating some other spokesperson.

Duties of the Vice Chair

The Vice Chair shall preside over School Committee meetings if the Chair is unable to attend.

If the Chair leaves the School Committee during the year, the Vice Chair shall serve as Chair until the next organizational meeting of the School Committee.

Duties of the Secretary

The Superintendent shall serve as Secretary to the School Committee unless a Committee member is elected to this position.

The Secretary is responsible for posting meetings and minutes of meetings.

The Secretary shall prepare agendas for meetings.

The Secretary shall take minutes at meetings.

The Secretary serves as parliamentarian at meetings and advises the Chair on rules of order.
